Hair dyeing allowed in pregnancy or not?
Once you are pregnant, there are more and more questions about what you should do or what is still harmless. The same goes for the question “Can I continue to dye my hair during pregnancy?”
Till now, there have been no studies to show that dyeing hair has a negative effect on embryos. The chemicals in the hair color and tint are not highly toxic. The body does not absorb the chemical substances of the colour through the hair, but only through the scalp. That is why highlights are a more tolerable alternative to complete dyeing, especially during pregnancy. Since less colour gets onto your scalp during the dyeing of highlights, you are also exposed to fewer chemicals. So it is very likely that you can dye your hair without hesitation.
Nevertheless, many women do not use them as a precaution. There is also the possibility of taking some precautions yourself to ensure that women come into as little contact as possible with the chemicals. These would be, for example, to use gloves, ventilate the room well and let the paint soak in for as short time as possible. Some experts also recommend changing to vegetable hair colour during pregnancy. However, even these products may contain some of the chemical ingredients that are in synthetic hair colour.
An exception is pure henna, which is now also available in a variety of shades. Henna is a purely vegetable, semi-permanent colorant that is considered harmless to health. To conclude, unfortunately, there are not enough well-founded scientific findings on this question to make an exact recommendation.
